The Founder

When I started Artificial Frost I knew that I was going to have to do a lot of jobs - some I'd do okay, some I'd do poorly, and one or too I'd do very well. In some cases I had to do some hefty skill upgrades just to reach a minimal level of adequacy.

As I come to the end of my self-funded bootstrapping phase, one of the most important things I've gotten out of it is a direct, first-person understanding of what each of these jobs entails.

What's difficult? How long should this task take? What duties mesh well enough together that they could form a coherent job description?

The luxury of self-funding is that you get the time to develop your capabilities, your realization of your strengths and weakness, and an understanding of the company's task and purpose.

As I look to find partners for the next phase of Artificial Frost, I am confident that I will find people much better than me at most of these roles.

To me, that's what being a founder is all about.
